Providing a Pantry

During both the 2017 and 2018 seasons of the Lincoln Park Farmer’s Market, the JLD offered “pantry” items to customers taking advantage of SNAP benefits. A neighborhood survey by Fair Food Access indicated that many residents want more options available at the market.

Based on those research findings, every other week the JLD provided items such as canola oil, oats, pinto beans, salad dressing, pasta or pasta sauce to shoppers at the market. These all-organic pantry items were provided at no cost to recipients. Thanks to the Whole Foods Co-op for their support!  http://wholefoods.coop/

Kids in the Kitchen

After completing Playfront Park, the Junior of Duluth participated in the Association of Junior Leagues International Inc. Kids in the Kitchen initiative. The goal of the Kids in the Kitchen initiative is to empower youth to make healthy lifestyle choices and help reverse the growth of childhood obesity and its associated health issues.

Playfront Park

Playfront Park was first built in 1989 as a community project led by the Junior League of Duluth.  The park needed to be replaced and we made the commitment to the city to raise funds to make this happen. The new playground is an Evos design structure that enhances children’s balance, coordination, and strength.   With the support of hundreds of community volunteers, the playground was built in May 2010.
